Watches have become smarter and therefore named smartwatch. These are a little different from traditional watches. From big mobile makers such as Apple and Samsung to traditional watchmakers like Tag Heuer and Fossil so many companies are creating smartwatches to deliver notifications, apps and more to your wrist.
TGB brings you some pointers to look out for when buying a smartwatch.
OS and Device Compatibility
Most smartwatches work in sync with your smartphone. Therefore device- compatibility is very important. For example, Samsung’s Gear S3 works with multiple Android handsets, but not with iOS based phones. Android Wear watches mostly work with Android 4.3 and higher smartphones. You can check whether your smartphone is compatible by going to g.co/WearCheck. It is no surprise Apple Watch only works with the iPhone. In nutshell Don’t buy a smartwatch unless you know that it will work with your smartphone.
Smart watches should offer customization in using different bands of different colors to look trendy. This can be from the same company or third party bands. Also comfort counts for a lot for wearing the smart watches, especially the ease with which you can fasten the watch to your wrist. In the market you find all major brands like Moto, Apple, Huawei offer customization through such flexibility.
Display & Touch Screen
Almost all smartwatches are now available use a colorful LCD screen or AMOLED display with a trade off with battery life. Always look for a smartwatch that continues to show the time when it’s not in use, with less brightness to save battery.
Choosing for a touch screen on your smartwatch would seem to be a no-brainer. Sometimes it can be difficult to click or touch items on a smaller touch display. To address this Android Wear software does a nice job of showing card-based notifications which one can easily dismiss with a swipe.
Notifications and Alerts
Notifications for emails, calls, SMSes should be clearly indicated on the wrist watch. Additionally those who are addicted to social platforms should also see for notifications from Facebook, twitter etc.
There are customizations available for Samsung Gear S3 smart watches for filtering which notifications will be available on watch panel through Gear Manager app. Alcatel OneTouch also lets you decide which app can send you notifications.
Although smart watch is a new trend. The android play store and Apple App Store has hundreds of apps dedicated to smart watches. There are proprietary apps: Alcatel OneTouch, Samsung’s TIzen OS etc.
Android Wear has many of the apps dedicated for : Lyft for ride scheduling, Whatsapp reply message with voice etc.
